The way Jennette McCurdy's book is written is accessible and extremely relatable to women around her age who watched her show growing up. Her character on iCarly was a "She's literally me" situation for millions of tweens and this book is pretty much an extension of that into real life. Like there's a section where she talks about chatting with Miranda Cosgrove on AIM for example, and lots of people can relate to growing up in a hoarder house with emotionally unavailable parents and developing mental illnesses. There's a reason Lena Dunham called it "An important cultural document"; her story is relatable and took place during a unique moment in time.

I suppose when the accusation is so indefensible and so credible, all you can do is pretend that nobody cares and try to shame people into silence. What kind of people would use that kind of tactic? It's disgusting.

I hate government regulation with a passion, but there really needs to be a LOT more protections for child actors. Like, no less than three government appointed guardians with the child at all times, from three different levels of government (federal, state, local). All the payment needs to go to a trust that the parents can't access, too. And just for good measure studios should be taxed extra to cover all the guardian costs.
