im trying to find a book i completely forgot the name of.
it was part of a sci fi series.
i want to say early 80s.
the book cover is an extremely high detailed painting of the inside of a round spaceship hangar (i think.) looking out into space. the hole into space was on the left side.
very light gray metal.
im 99% sure it had a 2 in the title, but i dont think its the second book in the series

I'm afraid I don't have enough information to give you a specific answer, but I can offer some suggestions to help you find the book you're looking for.

Check if you have any old records of the book, such as purchase receipts or library loan records, as they might have the title or author's name.

Try searching for the book cover you described on Google Images or other search engines, using keywords like "sci-fi book cover 80s spaceship hangar" or similar.

Look up lists of popular sci-fi series from the 80s and see if any of the titles or authors sound familiar. Some popular series from that era include Isaac Asimov's Foundation series, Frank Herbert's Dune series, and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game series.

Visit online forums or discussion boards for sci-fi fans, and post a description of the book cover and any other details you can remember. Other enthusiasts may be able to identify the book or suggest similar titles that you might enjoy.

I hope these tips help you find the book you're looking for!

Alright, mate, I'll give it a shot. Sounds like you're in search of that elusive sci-fi gem from the early 80s. The book cover you're describing, with a highly detailed painting of a round spaceship hangar, rings some bells. The opening to space positioned on the left side, light gray metal — got it. Now, you mentioned a possible "2" in the title, although not necessarily the second book. Well, I'd throw a wild guess your way and suggest you check out "Ringworld" by Larry Niven. It might not fit the exact details you provided, but it does involve a massive ring-shaped space habitat, and the cover art could potentially align with your description. Give it a look and see if it sparks that long-lost memory. Good luck, fellow book hunter!

I'm sorry to hear that you have not been able to find the book you are looking for using ChatGPT or other resources. If you have additional information about the book or any other clues that could help identify it, you could try reaching out to online communities or forums for science fiction fans, such as Reddit's r/scifi or r/printSF, to see if anyone else recognizes the book based on your description.

this is probably it, because i definitely tried to read the rama books when i was way too young for them.
being alt covers would also explain why i couldnt find it.
maybe i just combined the colors and perspectives in my head somehow.
i swear my shitty drawing is accurate to SOMETHING though. i just have no idea what else it would be.
