start with the russians.
Tolstoy's novellas are a great entry point, being all short and sweet.
then some smaller Dostoevsky, like 'the gambler' or such. then move on to the larger works. i've heard good of 'Oblomov'.
just listing the absolutely most famous, look around, they're full of great authors.
makes me want to learn russian at some point.
