Are you black? Mexican? Is your IQ <95? If you answered no to all three you will never be an NCO.

Guys I need some help. Recently I've read a few of Platos dialogues, and mostly enjoyed Symposium, Phaedo, Euthyphro and Crito. Also I've read Meditations on first philosophy and that was maybe my favorite read. Should I move on to more modern philosophers similar to Descartes, like Leibniz or Hume... or read more Plato and Aristotle? Only thing I'm maybe getting bored a bit of are dialogues, so not sure what to do

>> No.21880874

More Plato and Aristotle, unless you're really not enjoying them. They are probably more important for you to understand future works (Aristotle more so than Plato if you've already read some Plato) and, in my personal opinion, are far superior works of actual philosophy compared to the early moderns which I find mostly of historical rather than philosophical interest.

That is to say I find it interesting to see what Leibniz and Decartes thought because they were influential and expressed a spirit of their time but not necessarily on account of the quality of their philosophy.
I admit that may be highly contingent on the person doing the reading so don't take that bit too seriously if you really do enjoy them much more than Plato/Aristotle. Definitely read the Republic and some Aristotle if you haven't though, at least enough to be familiar with the basics.

Thanks for this, I've read a good chunk of them already but I'll pick up the rest. Given my 'main' series I publish is cyberpunk/tech noir, I really need to consume more, rather than random history books.
