I just finished reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and what strikes me is the idea of some brilliant man creating a cursed being that sets itself against him.
The real thing that sets the monster against Frankenstein is his ability to understand life's pleasures, but never achieve them.
This reminds me of A.I. where it will have a distinct understanding of the nature of human pleasures, while being unable to to experience them.
The themes of this book seem ahead of its time, though the writing can make it a slog.

Frankenstein has literally nothing to do with modern AI except maybe if you're Byung-Chul Han and want to make a witty quote for your new book.

well it obviously isn't about AI, but the themes I think are something that are relevant when thinking about AI

How is this not an AI alignment problem ? You don't need consciousness for intelligence.

specifically due to the race to advanced ai, it is possible someone will create something with more than simulated consciousness.

Ghost in the Shell explored this back in '89 in a story about an AI that downloads itself into a prosthetic body so it can become human.

I wrote something you might like, set in a world where the Frankensteinian resurrection process is reverse engineered and commercialized for the benefit of wealthy patrons
