For years, we have been mocking Brandon Sanderson deep in the headquarters of his cult, reddit.com. We have claimed that his writing lacks any artistic merit and is nothing more than commercial schlock for a readership with no appreciation for literature. We have joked about his readers' penchant for recommending his books to everyone, no matter their tastes. We have, similarly to the article's author, Jason Kehe, described Sanderson's fashion choices as neckbeard-like. And also like Kehe, we have suffered. We have been called cruel, miserable, jealous of Sanderson's success. But have we made a single cent off this? No, because as we moderators are often reminded, we do it for free.

Wired, you have appropriated our work. Taken what we do out of passion and turned it into a commodity. Do you think this is fair? Do you think that just because we have not had to smell Sanderson and his fans, we deserve nothing while you and Kehe take everything?

You can essentially see everything Sanderson believes, or at least a framework for it, by going and looking at everything Orson Scott Card said once he was too big to fail and too powerful to cancel.

One of the corner stones of their religion is a sort of soft evangelism that says everybody can potentially be a mormon, everybody is worthy of being a mormon, once you are a mormon you can't stop being a mormon, and that the only thing separating a mormon from a non-mormon is ignorance that can be overcome through sufficient outreach.

Mormon theology is fascinating because it's an Abrahamic offshoot that has been specifically configured to be more compatible with the high-trust low-conflict stability of industrialized society, rather than the low-trust high-conflict chaos of warring states that birthed most Abrahamic offshoots.

I don't actually like Mormons, but is the wired article just upset that he's a nerd and has close family connections? Is this man writing the new bible? I am reading third book in the stormlight archives and he's literally writing kind of fantasy that most mythologies tend to fall in to some extent. Bigger then life in every sense. He's describing various virtues in depth, explains each of his point through various stories then goes in depth as to how to follow these ideals correctly. Finally he shows how this would benefit one and everyone. Is this okay?

This guy was a missionary for Mormon church and seems like to really believe what's he's writing. I've seen him talk about how he decided to write even if he never succeeded. He claims he'd been writing for a long time at that point and wasn't getting anywhere. But somehow it felt right to write even if he was unsuccessful. First ideal of his religion seems to be "Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination." It is one of more discussed ideas so far. And what seems interesting to me is how it's the first one and it is shared across hierarchies as it is there to safeguard rest of the ideals just like the first amendment.

On top of this he redefines what we consider reality like many eastern religions. He has lived in Asia if I'm remembering correctly. Quantum physics is part of his magic. Does he think he's a prophet or is it just me?
