I just sent a few stories around 1.3-2k each and I’m worried that they’ll be dead on arrival due to their length

Unless it is so incredibly nuanced that a mid-wit can understand the value, and at the same time someone intelligent can find multiple interpretive meanings then yeah, that’s essay length.

Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t post them anon. :)

Some of the rags will take shorter fiction to fill space, but anything with a length that has to be described by a cringy neologism is DOA.

My favorite short story is no longer than 5 pages or so.

>> No.21811242

Shortest I've seen is Incarnations of Burned Children, and that's around 1 1/2 pages

I think the length works with the ambiguity; these remind me of some Benjamin Percy short stories or Shirley Jackson even. I think sometimes the specialized language gets in the way of other things, like pacing; the focus so much on describing setting in the first few paragraphs feels like a slow start for the length that they are.

Nigga you posted this the other day too. I was the one who said it was 8/10. Why are you so eager to get your work out there? I hope you’re using substack at least and might as well start a vlog with a tripcode. Keep building my ninja.

shorter stories are more likely to get picked up. It's when stories are too long that you should be worried.

I want to mog the people in my English department. Plus, it’s more productive to write than to coom all day or play vidya.

What’s that? And thanks. I’ll keep building my skills and try to one day make something of some worth.

The only value your product has is apparently the promotion of your own ego so I'm not so sure it is more productive than that by any meaningful standard.
