Tough question. Lot of manga suffer from being stretched thin and cut short due to the needs of the magazine they are being published in. Not to mention that most of the stuff we get is one aimed at teenage populace, so the quality of writing is like YA novels.

In a comic you actually give up prose to have shitty images of inane shit that doesn't matter because the key scenes that are worth illustrating end up in a nice big spread which is basically equivalent to what you'd see in an illustrated book.
