and let's pick them apart and make a habit of this e'ery now and then: take some song, post some lyrics and make a quick case why it's trash or why, contrarily, it's terrific.
LET ME SHOW YOU HOW ITS DONE

The first image that I find burned in trauma in my mind is that terrible "the Cold Play" and much specific-wise that terrible ballad of theys, "when i ruled the world,"

Now, this song, I argue, is the fantasy narrative of the modernish westerner; the exact tale (oft' in error) what was given to us in schooling and politics, and the ego boost of this notion that "we ruled the world" and, not even in the next breath, the thought that "we" were never worthy to rule! ha! The ballad, ostensibly-like, is not to the self but, supposed, that of Jesus of the Jews, but the most literal visceral must be taken account as the listener who hears it is liable to have found; voided of context of history I mean, that the narrative refers directly to their own selves and is, in that manner, (for want of a rhyme) obscene.

The idea to suddenly critique pop music as if it were poetry is hilarious to me.

i beseech thee, listener,
becometh mine shaving mirror, mine buckler and dagger,
becometh mine missionaries; e'er far afield as you stagger,

>Be my mirror, my sword and shield
>My missionaries in a foreign field
>For some reason I can't explain
>Once you'd gone, there was never
>Never an honest word
>And that was when I ruled the world

I would indulge but then I'd just be posting what I considered was aesthetically written and mastered.

So here's something similar, no words, just aesthetic.

You can buy the biggest bag,
the bestest bag you'd ever have,

next verse

I gave those about me a teased out drip
which i plopped on their tongue with a medicine stick,
but many put their lips to suckle
and drank more than their fill, oft' the trucul'

Such A Shame by Talk Talk has pretty good lyrics. They have an abstract, enigmatic quality where the meaning is obscured by variation and repetition.

huh. I'm surprised more people didn't run with this thread. Hypothesis confirmed that pop music is not only 'poetry' but possesses a stronger religious grip on the mind for being such ambiguous and highly interpretive gibberish; lank slates for the listener to project whatever they want upon.
