Is it true that the Will to Power is an illegitimate Nietzschean text? What are some examples of his sisters editing that obscured what Nietzsche intended to convey?

>> No.21730623

It reads like a bunch of shitposts, all of his books do but especially this one. Seems to have good parts.

I don‘t get all the spazzing about his sister. Most writers have their characteristic faults ironed out by an editor or appended in posterity.

There's no such thing. The Will to Power is not a book that Nietzsche wrote and was scrambed by Elizabeth. It's a collection of posthumous notes that were edited into a book. Elizabeth is also the creator of the book, in a sense.

just making a specific selection of the nachlass is a form of influencing the message.

if you want unpublished nietzsche, read the actual nachlass chronologically in addition to his correspondence.

read it as what it is, collected notes that where not finished or polished (though some seem to be). It's classic Nietzsche but without the grandiosity of the prose you find in his other books.

Okay but where does the reaction come from where people claim Will to Power is distorted to please Nazis? I've never seen any direct passages from the book that support these claims, surely there must be some?

He talks in many of his books about the shaping of a race or a population through its costumes, through nutrition, hygiene, etc. I think it's very common for people to misread the descriptive as prescriptive. I've seen it countless times. With that in mind it's not hard to misinterpret him as more than descriptive and even think of him as a eugenicist.

The older editions had a lot of interpolations by his sister and censoring as well. The current editions are based on his own handwritten notes and exclude everything she added and add everything she omitted

Let's say there are recordings of you talking for hundreds of hours. Then some nazi edits it down to a 20 minute clip choosing only sentences he likes. You may not end up with Mein Kampf, but it's not an honest representation of your views either.

Given that Nietzsche had disowned his sister, hated her for associating with antisemite nationalists and how they were appropriating his work even when he was well, he would have never condoned having her as an editor.

Not sure, I just never bothered with it and went straight to the source (the nachlass aka the complete notes he left behind)
