"A house divided against itself cannot stand." The pleasure-drive is a dance around emptiness. What it promises it can never deliver, to drink of it and immerse oneself in it is not to find true fulfilling and satisfying Pleasure but to endlessly reach towards that Pleasure, exponentially reaching for it but always infinitesimally distant from it. I, myself, do these things, and I, myself, am disgusted, am horrified, flee to the desert. To bend towards emptiness in the form of pleasure is to annihilate the intellect and all urges of the Soul, leaving only a gibbering, wordless mass of dumb flesh eternally moving towards the great object of its desire, Pleasure, and never reaching it. I must seize control of the coupling, the conduit, the linking-point, the bridge between the Soul and the flesh, and deliberately and purposefully direct it at every instant, or it (I) will fall towards the pleasure-void and be annihilated. One of me must die and one must live on, either the intellect or the pleasure-seeker, and it will be--

What does it mean when a woman acts all giggly, asks questions, invites her self to do something with you after class, and seems generally interested, but then as soon as you finally ask her if she wants to do something, she starts making excuses like that she's "busy", not answering your messages, leaving you on unread, and avoiding you more generally, like not showing up to class?
Am I delusional? Was she never interested in the the first place? I know that some people here say that it's best to think of women like capricious children, but surely there's some rationale behind this sort of behavior? Is she creeped out? I'm so confused and sort of hurt.

I'm willing to travel 5 hours on the train to Cardiff just to talk to you and hang out and give you the first twenty chapters of a novel I am writing for you because I really want our friendship to blossom. Like, this is the most craziest thing. I'm willing to do that. You've made it crystal clear that there is nothing between us so why would I do that? I ask nothing in return except a little slither of your time. Does that not tell you anything? I am the laughing stock of my generation. I have nothing to rest my hope on if I had any at all. Yet I would not do this for anybody else. I have not done this for anybody else. Just because we are destined to be terrible texters does not mean we won't have fun together in person.

But alas, I have nothing more to offer you. All this for a look at your triangular smile and your arched raised eyebrow once again. I am a stupid man.

Fleeting visions of a memory abound around every corner I turn; a constant feeling of deja vu is my modus operandi. I don't know what I want to do with my life. I'm graduating from uni soon. Nothing really piques my interest that much, I picked English for my program because it seemed easy and enjoyable enough. Now I'll reap the fruits of my labor--and since the labor I put in was very slight, I shall yield slight gains from this enterprise. It seems like my entire life has been a fever dream, and that it will continue to be that way for a while, probably the rest of it will be uncanny and surreal in some capacity, at the very least.

Art must be free from restraint so it can work for humanity instead of against it. Circumscribed by censors and social stigma, the only function art can perform is as a vanguard for capitalism. Capitalist art, or "content", can pose as revolutionary. Consider Taylor Swift producing a song advocating social equality. Pop songs of today seem greater than themselves in that they are followed by the ghosts of their branding, including videos, media coverage, social media presence. But in the end do they have more clout (or even nearly as much) than an anti-war song from the 1960s, which spread only through radio, record sales and word of mouth? Not while the forces which disseminate them are themselves circumscribed by social dictates.
Over time, society comes to resemble the culture it is allowed to consume. When that culture is not allowed to represent any ideas outside the ruling hegemony, nothing can be new and all art is autophagy. This is a one-way street and it's easy to see where it's going.

Nothing a woman does means anything. Imagine yourself at 8 years old making and breaking friendships and having weird little dramas. All of it matters as long as it's in the moment, but you probably don't remember all the little relationships and group dynamics you went in and out of rapidly as you grew up. That's a woman's ADULT experience too, they never stop living like that. That doesn't mean you should accept it from them, but you should understand that most of them can't help themselves. They are basically dreaming while awake, they are in a reverie that won't end until they're 28 or so, when it becomes a nightmare, and then they only fully wake up into cold brutal boring male reality and join the rest of us around 33.

I'm serious, the sooner you train yourself to stop trying to track or explain or derive meaning from women's behavior, the better, and on top of that, the more they will respect you and be attracted to you as well. It's no picnic to be like they are, imagine never waking up from a perpetual dream, always stuck in dream logic in which emotions and associations flow and interweave with and reconstruct reality continuously. They are children, and not even particularly bright or lucid children. It's their blessing and their curse.

The problem is precisely lack of trying. I can't get the bloody thing done, and it's for lack of trying. Now normally the thing has a difficulty and for some people that might be too much or too little, depending on the person, but the usual solution is to try longer or harder and get the thing done. Nobody seems to have anything to say when the trying itself has its own difficulty. Don't even get me started on trying to try, that fucking farce. Give me motivation, force me into discipline, assign me hours, dedicate days, make me listen to people cheering me up, get me extensions for browsers and goddamn child restrictions and all my effort goes into hacking away at them until they're gone. I don't try because trying is too hard, and I can't get it done because to get it done I'd have to try. How the fuck am I supposed to get anything done when the very effort it takes to try to get it done saps all the breath out of my lungs? And it's not that the things are hard. How hard is it to write gibberish on some random topic and copy bits and pieces from other publications and reword them and paste in citations which are already provided? Not hard at all. I'd bet whatever the fuck you want that at least 3/4ths of the world's population would gleefully exchange places with me, maybe more. Or fucking murder someone even, if they didn't have to face any consequences for it, except 30 pages of some bullshit thesis. But that goes both ways. If I could chop wood for a whole fucking day and do nothing except chop wood all day for a week - you can take the saturdays and sundays if you like I don't give a shit - instead of sitting here and having to push that fucking stone up to the foot of the mountain all over again, I'd do it. Hell, give me a year of chopping wood and I'll do it. Just write me my fucking thesis.

If you’re thinking about taking a risk and betting on yourself, your poetry, your art and you’re young, just do it. Embrace the starving artist lifestyle and make it work later. If you don’t, and you wake up at 30 having never really taken the risks and given it everything, you will regret it. For a poet or an artist, a normal life can feel like a death sentence and to look back on a normal life something even worse.
