I only read science fiction, fantasy, romance, YA, Halo, Star Wars.
I wrote a 65k YA romance novel
I thought the LOTR movies were great but didn't like the books at all. I got about 100 pages into FOTR before I gave up.
I used Spark Notes/Cliff Notes to get through 2 philosophy courses I took in college. I got As in both.

I’m not going to learn a whole language just to read him, and no matter how many different translations I try they all have the same inherent issue of Dostoevsky rambling aimlessly for pages upon pages. It’s boring. He doesn’t just get into the minds of his characters, he loses himself in their minds and doesn’t exit when necessary.

One thing that's keeping me from reading long books is the thought about how many short books I could read in the same time. Meaning I over value quantity.

I talk about how important the Iliad is, yet I haven't read it. Also because I am scared that it will filter me.
Same with Decline of the West.

I judge people who don't read but I almost judge people who read mass produced genre fiction more.
