I wonder to what degree his whole thing is just an act. His father was an IM in chess and a linguist. I can agree with Prison Bottom G partially. When it comes to practical knowledge, technical subjects, hard sciences, books ARE slow as shit. Humanity agrees, schools exist because learning from a mentor is faster than learning on your own (modern public schools are worthless, ofcourse). If you wanna learn, say, meteorology today, your best and quickest solution is to download a video lectures course from a prestigious university and engage with interactive online tests, join a zoom study group etc

I wouldn't say an IM is smarter (that's too vague), but clearly more autistic. Chess players have incredible memory and pattern recognition skills - which can be summed as intelligence. They are creative in their field too. Thinking about it, yeah they are smarter. If they use their abilities in engineering for example, it's kinda the same premise.
