For me it was the exact opposite, I found the galleries episodes to be kind of bad - it's very easy to look like the smart one if you edit the video and catch people off guard with insults. I started finding it way more interesting after they began with portraits, like Simchowitz, and especially Philip, as they manage to show that these very rich, very powerful art dealer are actual (complex) people. I also think they manage to show a very weird dynamic there, namely that while artists need funds, funders want to be acknowledge as artists by being the ones who are sensible enough to legitimize the "good" art. Also, in general, halfway through the series you start seeing more and more of how Stefan and Kate personal life intertwine with the episodes and the people (Philip basically becomes a family friend, besides being a funder), and I think this raises important questions concerning the relation between art and its context.

I don't think they go at it as a way of seeking a real discussion, they just try to get people to reveal something to them that they can explore and analyse from their point of view. In this way you don't get some balanced portrayel, which I don't think they even claim to offer, but simply their perspective and analysis of what their project has shown. I think it's much more enjoyable to be offered this kind of biased perspective up front to engage with instead of the usual procedural manipulation that these types of documentaries typically use to make a point.
