What they were there for was for kids to the library during lunch break and read books if they wanted to or they could borrow them and take them home
They had both fiction and nonfiction

I knew an old man who talked about how he learned geography during his free time from an educated man who lived on his street. he was allowed to be alone with that man in that house and everything was completely fine. Older Zoomer here (23 y/o) who grew up in New York State. Yes, the education system really was that bad with anti-cisgender-heterosexual-white-male/hardcore intersectionality propaganda, especially pushed through history class (middle school and high school), and AP History especially. Watching the “I am Jazz” documentary was just the least of it. It legitimately made me feel guilty for being a white male and took on a hyper-masochistic self-flagellating mindset, for some years until I mercifully broke through the programming somehow.
