I've read a bit about this guy and want to read some of his work. Most people say to start with the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, but I've also heard that this is hard to understand. I'm interested mostly in novels, and maybe short stories/poetry if they're good.

Confessions of a Mask is amazing. I couldn't get into his other books tho so maybe it's a stylistic outlier

I read a post on Reddit that said this book has homoerotic undertones. Is that true or is it someone reading deeply into it? I don't mind if it is true.

Confessions is his first and weakest book imo.

I can't tell if this is bait or not, but the book is literally about being gay.

Not bait, I've just never read it.

When I read it I remember it felt pretty explicitly about a gay guy being gay but having to hide it cus it wasn't acceptable in society. But don't let that turn you off of it-- idk if you've read the Bell Jar but it's more in the vein of that. Like someone who is deeply unhappy and trying to function in normal society

I would start with Confessions of a Mask

Yeah. It's pretty homoerotic, but he was NOT gay.
>>21581833
>but the book is literally about being gay
It's not. He just had a fetish for masculinity. Why people keep spreading the lie that he was gay?

Honestly, a good start.

Mishima definitely wasn't "straight" in the strictests sense of the word but he wasn't gay. He had straight relationships and, if you read, his infatuation with men was really centered on masculinity and death.
Many of his male partners said they thought he was gay and playing hard to get until they realized ALL of his interactions with them centered around literally larping as samurai or soldiers. Of his many partners, all of them said he never engaged in intercourse, just weird as fuck larping.

>Yeah, masturbating to and fantasizing about men totally ISN'T gay. No, it's because he had a fetish for things specifically related to MEN.
You say tomato, I say that's pretty gay

Why was his main character in "life to sell" the opposite ? A true giga chud with random hoes dying for him out of nowhere...
He's so chud that everytime he wants to suicide another female saves him from doing so and taking her life instead.
Fuck this narcistic guy...murokami is a god in comparison to this manlet
