The Sapir-Whorf hypothesis argues that language provides categories through which social reality is defined and constructed. It argues that thinking and perception are not only expressed through language but also shaped by language.

Steven Pinker's The Language Instinct does a pretty good job of explaining why the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is false.

i think that it is useless to prove him "wrong"
his work is not to be taken literally
these kind of "extremes" should be taken as a start point for the debate
i find his thesis really interesting
