Music is considered by some to be the purest because of its abstraction, moving us to tears or to dance. But we've loved our story times so much. It wasn't long before the hybridization of the art of stage plays with music where taken to the heights of opera and other kinds of musical narratives.
But cinema can, at it's best, bring all richness of a painted canvas, the emotions of a great story and the chill up the spin from a properly place musical cue.
Cinema can do so much. Too bad it's still hampered by money and talentless hacks

In my opinion literature towers above *almost* every other art form, with the sole exception being music (without lyrics). I'm not even a big musicfag and I read way more than I listen to music, but it's difficult for me to rate even something like literature as a higher form of art than something which can cause intense emotion just through a careful combination of different sounds.
Paintings are much worse than literature. Cinema is laughable. Video games have the potential to be far above either of those, maybe on par with literature, but it hasn't happened yet. Animation is much better than cinema but still fundamentally incapable of reaching the same heights as the written word. Sculpting and architecture are both similar; they can produce absolutely awe inspiring results and the skill involved is truly amazing, but ultimately can't compete with literature.

Fine art is a trade, like being a shoemaker. A painter can never be a truly profound person because they spend their life trying to copy life.
Sculpture is superior to painting. It could be likened to a trade, but sculpture is closer to the masculine trades like construction and mining. Painting is more feminine, thus, subordinate to the sculpture of biology.
Authors aren't really artists per se. They are all prophets, scientists, philosophers. While they also use a handheld utensil like a painter, authors, being manipulators of language, also have the ability to forgo wrting at all. They could hire a scribe, for example.
The second highest form of art, in terms of the medium, is undoubtedly music, even if there isn't one piece that one could name to support the argument.
The highest form of art that really makes you clap and say "well done sir" is memetics.
The ultimate form of art that you can't say no to, is war.

Has there been a single video game on par with the greatest products of literature, music, art, and film that would even put it near this conversation? A few anons have suggested it but nothing comes to mind, aside from Tetris (mainly because of the Tetris effect) which I doubt is what they meant.
>>21398959
They're different mediums entirely. Paintings cannot depict inner lives, only whatever is outwardly shown. This is because fine art is a static medium and we can only read hidden emotions by witnessing continuous changes in a person's behavior, in a compare-contrast way. Literature is a continuous medium, and so it can express what Mona Lisa is thinking and how that changes over time, whereas the painting itself only shows what emotions are on her face in that instant.
I'm paraphrasing but Kierkegaard talks a lot about this in the first half of Either / Or. At one point he uses the metaphor of a thousand pictures being taken every second as a means of expressing inner turmoil, which predicts the invention of film by about 50 years and makes me wonder what he would've thought of that medium.

Valid.

Art is, in itself, the beauty. That is, an exadarated and even more beautiful version of things around us. Good art is the ability of one to use innovation (feminine) and tradition (masculine) to enhance the beauty of a certain aspect of life. Following these facts, I'm sure you would agree, the core representation of art itself is cute animu grills.

I will never get the meme that innovation and creativity are supposedly feminine. Women have two X chromosomes and are thus less subjected to spontaneous mutations, they're highly dependent on society and thus can't deviate too far from any norm unless they already have support. They were never adventurers, conquerors or creative and innovtive thinkers before men or in the same capacity. They in fact are the solid, nourishing base, nature, while men, striving towards the heavens and expanses of the unknown (sea) bring innovation and refined culture at the risk of their own well being.

cinema is the most expansive art form, I don't even waste much time thinking about it, you can alone tell a great story and change the world, for better or worst with just a piece of paper and a pen.
if you are going to make your story great by cinema standards you are going to need millions of dollars, unless you're really limited in what you're doing.,
imagine casting, music, lights, equipments, locations, etc..
who today hold the power to put a motion picture together where can freely express ones ideas without any type of politics? no one.
imagine if you had the financial resources and yo u could thing in your story in terms of location, actors, lightning, angles? it truly is a very complete art form, it only lacks that even the mastermind could never truly encapsulates his ideas, how many takes would it take to get it right? how much money?

>> No.21400941

>>21400913
This. I like film, but the limitation of cinema is that it requires too much. You have to subject yourself to the judgement of multiple people (most of whom are not artists themselves) before you even get to make the film. A writer, composer, or painter could keep making art even without financial success and leave a corpus of work that can be re-discovered and appreciated after their death, but a director can only make so many failures before they're prevented from making more films. At best, cinema sacrifices (or at least minimizes the possibility of) genuine expression for the possibility of a more impressive spectacle. This doesn't, necessarily, make it 'inferior' but it's a flaw that you have to acknowledge.
