Has anyone else noticed the amount of double-posting on the boards lately? What I mean by double posting is seeing a unique post then a few minutes later seeing the exact same post again. I have seen it a few times already. I assume they are all bots but it seems a bit grim for the board to slowly get replaced by

Eventually everything unfroze and i realized i had posted the same response twice.

I don't think Ossian guy has been getting much argument lately. I think it makes sense because the double posting seems to kind of increase in the time frame where anons started not even getting into arguments with his autism.
I can't remember what the other guy's argument for double posting being Ossian guy was, but I think if it had started a little while earlier I'd accept Butterfly as a substitute scapegoat. If it's human then the obvious reasons why humans post on this Mongolian basket weaving forum is attention and autism, so the probable culprit is an anon who is desperate for attention but also autistic about it and has some history with the board. If it's an anon either copypastaing his way through the board or targeting a bot to the board, then it's probably a prominent autist we know.
If it's just a random bot or bug and not directed, then does anyone really give a fuck if Ossian guy got blamed wrongfully?

I highly doubt it is bots or a bug, when it first started all the posts where of the same ilk, short midwit retorts generally suggesting others are midwits and it always happened during the same time intervals everyday, far to consistent for a bot. A bug would be very unlikely to be on just /lit/ and I have not seen it on any other boards, but I do not spend much time on other boards so I could have just missed it. I think it is just someone who wanted to see if they could affect board culture, used to be fairly common.

I think it's an attention seeking thing. The double poster gets not only the replies asking what's up with the double post or bot, but the double post might also get genuine replies like the first post.
It copies the kind of posts someone wishes they could be the author of originally. I first noticed it because it would copy in threads with very few replies, and normally it copied posts where anon had suggested the main books covering the topic OP asked about books for X. I don't think it's a bot because it does seem to be picking I wish I wrote that kind of posts. It doesn't just copy condescending posts. It copies what it deems smart. It's not things a bot looking for smart words would copy either. It copying useful posts is why I noticed it but a bot probably couldn't tell they were useful.
The attention seeking thing is why I'd assume Butterfly if it fit the time frame, but I think Ossian fits the time frame better. Picking out condescending posts could be either of them. Overall, I lean toward not a bot, but it could be a bot. I don't know if it appears on other boards too, but if you wanted to test your script, targeting one small board which doesn't report posts a lot is probably easier to get away with.
I really think most everything on 4chan including this conversation boils down to autism and attention, so I think we have at most a handful of suspects, and Ossian and Butterfly are way more likely culprits than Chinese bot testers trying to navigate the English language and its history.

I don't think it's a named board lolcow. I think it's some anon who copies shit for attention and we probably have no idea who he is because that's all he does that's notable. If he is the anon who tried to join in a highly popular meme fiesta and kept failing to get included in the party that celebrated his OC idea of double posting, I'd say most of his other original posts are ignored because they give "hello fellow children"/alphabet agency trying to meme vibes.

The reason I do not think it is attention seeking autism is because for the first few weeks it was almost completely ignored, they stuck with it for far longer and without results than an attention seeker would have, especially considering all the easy ways there are to get attention and (You)s on a board filled with thin skinned autists. Just some anon wasting time while waiting for a response and seeing if they could affect board culture. This sort of activity used to be part of 4chan and part of what made it what it was.

I would bet if someone were to dig through the archives and find the start of it they would find that it came in bursts, a bunch of post duplicating and then 5 or 10 minutes of none while they responded in the responses they were waiting for, and then another burst of post duplicating, repeat. With a little detective work one could probably narrow down the anon. We used to have autists who loved to dig through the archives to figure this stuff out, but their sort seem to have left the board. I am surprised how long it took for a thread to be made about the duplicates.

I think it started as a joke and blew out of proportion.
Some may do it to 'upvote' or agree with a post. Sometimes they do it to call out posts that are calling out double posting now (as seen itt).
Sometimes they seem to do it as a sort of 'God I wish I wrote that post' as an snon earlier stated.
Sometimes I think it's for (You)s as people skimming a thread may not actually read (this is /lit/ after all) every post and seeing the same thing posted twice, for me, seems to really make me think about that more than just reading it once.
Sometimes I think it was bots or a psyop type of thing, to make you question reality.
I can't be sure, I've seen the poster count increase so it's (likely) not samefagging (unless they're jumping through hoops to double post without samefagging, which I wouldn't put past some 4chan users)
And finally, I think it just happens to be a good snd effective way to try shifting the board or even site culture. It's a meme like anything else. It gets seen, repeated and replicated (e.g. He rapes his sister, Phoebe) ad infinitum because it's funny. The double posting used to drive me nuts, but now I just laugh at the absurdity. Which brings me to one other point: there is no point. People just do it for the lulz by now. Absurdism is definitely an effective form of comedy, especially on 4channel. Don't think too hard about it.
There are myriad reasons for double posting. The 4channel hive mind is actually all me. and breaking apart st the seams. It's becoming increasingly harder to micromanage the nodes of the network. As a kindness towards myself, we shall just welcome you back into the fold, anon.
