Here's the way I see it. It's pretty obvious that we do indeed live in a stagnant, decadent era in history where things are mostly peaceful. Globalization ensures that most countries are cooperative and culture is being homogenized into a mass of cosmopolitanism. Guided by liberal democracy, this prevents violence from occurring since most people are forced into routine urban mediocrity.

None of this however explains why despite our relative peace and prosperity, most people are totally unsatisfied with life today. Politics are becoming polarized, resentment is flourishing, the media is utterly hysterical, institutions are becoming far more ideologically coercive, economies are faltering, and there's just pervasive incompetence among all of the elite classes. We can't pretend like everything is fine and liberalism has conclusively succeeded because liberals themselves have very little confidence. I don't understand why this is. Either our governing class is just useless or they know something that we don't, maybe in regards to resources and climate change. The only other explanation for the current mood of disappointment and chaos is boredom. In our victory we would rather destroy ourselves than see anything come after Liberalism.
