That is a spurious question; both are mutually complementary, and lack of either entails subpar, or pessimal, writing.

Experience is expansive, and consists in centrifugal dislocalization; imperience is contractive, and consists in centripetal localization; imagination is the introactivization of the mass compiled between these two modes of operation.

The actual dichotomy is between reality, and delusion.

One cannot be a good author without loving what is noble & virtuous in reality; in poesy, as in philosophy, there is no aggregately imperiencing the figurative/metaphorical without integrally experiencing the literal/cocrete —one who integrally explores diversity is the most equipped to implore university.
