I've been thinking about either getting an Onyx Note Air 5 or a Onyx Boox Max Lumi 2 to read more journal articles and study foreign languages. The Max Lumi seems ideal for that purpose but it seems difficult to justify the double cost + I've heard that the images look too dark on it (which is significant because I want to read Bersek on it, but the main purpose is to just read pdfs). Are there any litfags here who own those devices, who could advise me whether it's worth getting the Max Lumi? Or does the Book Note work just fine? I don't mind paying twice the amount if I'd get a completely hassle-free experience and wouldn't have to zoom in to read the text clearly.

I have the note4 and love it.

I'd say if you want to write a lot get the lumi but if you just want to make notes or write a bit get the air. The lumi is almost A4 sized.

My guess is the main difference is the size.

Maybe you can find some youtubers talking about the de devices you like.

Most people on this website would probably be right to be wary about buying products whose native software is owned and controlled by China.
I'm surprised a snobbish retard like you isn't shilling Apple products instead.

Idiotic retared shitzo post.

The entire modern e-reader industry is assembled and manufactured in China. There are hardly any devices that are currently available that are not made in various factories, the only exceptions are the Kobo and Nook line of e-readers, which are made in Taiwan.

Amazon, Pocketbook and Remarkable conduct their own industrial design. When it comes time for assembly and mass production, everything is done in China:

If you are going to read pdfs make sure the screen size is big. Coz the font will be small and you will have to keep swiping and the shit refresh rate in kindle paperwh-ACK

Repeat after me: "eink is not good for pdfs". Get any tablet

If the cost increase of a few hundred dollars makes a difference, you're too poor to buy either.

Download the program k2pdfopt and test how it converts pdfs of the type you wish to read
If it's satisfactory buy a paperwhite or similar e-reader
I think buying an e-reader specifically to read native pdfs is a meme, you might as well buy a tablet and deal with the eye strain if you really need it

What's a good e-ink device that can read both Kindle books and ePubs? I currently just read off my phone like a barbarian.

Yeah?
How else are you going to display pdfs on an e-reader? You can zoom in but because of the e-ink it's too slow and a pain, better to just convert your document
I've started using k2pdfopt for pdfs that I use on my mobile phone too, it's a great program

If you want to read A4 you can get an A4 sized reader. Most book pdfs are smaller (A5). When was the last time you've read an A4 sized book?

I have no problem reading book pdfs

Koreader can reflow pdfs on the fly. And uses k2pdfopt to do that (sort of).

Honestly, don't buy Kindles. My Paperwhite jailbroken, it's a good device. But new PW can't be JB anymore (for now), and it requires unreal amounts of cope to convince oneself that book conversion, embedding styles into mobi, and doing fucking PDF pre-processing on PC is normal and healthy. It can't even read epubs.
