The last book in the trilogy was a bit of a letdown and introduced a trans character who's pronouns changed with the weather, but the first was one of the better YA books I've read.

The first two Gormenghast books, some years ago. More recently, James Branch Cabell's "The Silver Stallion." Also, all the Kai Lung books. Planning on doing a reread of those soon.

It was boring at first, but if you persist it weaves a strange immersive enchantment. I never really dreamed about the fictitious world of a book until I read Gormenghast.

I was looking for vampire novels and found this, but I got more out of it, its like a thriller in a cyberpunk-ish setting, the point of view shifts between the vampire and the detective, it was very engaging in my opinion.
