just happened to me reading Gredos' spanish translation of Marcus Aurelius' Meditations.
Acantilado tends to do this with their translations. Happened to Les essais of Montaigne and Manuscript found in Zaragoza

No way, I'm reading Kaputt by Curzio Malaparte in Spanish (published by Galaxia Gutenberg). And the translator says the versions in French, German, and English are based on an old text full of errors. The author himself even complained about the French version back in the day, and the German version lacks the prologue while the English version (NYRB) is missing an entire chapter.

Interesting. What did they say about Les essais?

Acantilado did a very accurate translation of Les Essais fully annotated and including the most important variations of all versions. It's based on the 1595's Gournay version.

Also remembered that Cátedra also shat on all previous translations of Berlin Alexanderplatz to spanish with examples kek

p.s. Old Aguilar editions are SHIT. They were the norm 50 years ago but nowadays almost all their big authors have much better spanish translations

kek Imagine being one of the past translators and reading how your work is getting ripped to shreds.

Also, I really want to read Acantilado's version of Manuscrito encontrado en Zaragoza. I heard it's only complete one in Spanish.
