Why did the Harry Potter series turn to shit?

Age 11: Kills his defence teacher
Age 12: Kills a mythical huge snake with a sword
Age 13: Preforms a spell most adults can't and uses it to drive off a hundred demons that would normally destroy a whole village.
Age 14: Be youngest person to take part in international tournament. Personally battle strongest, darkest wizard and get away. Fights off mind control from the guy.
Ages 15-17: Be a stupid, lazy, weak idiot who gets by with luck and help from others. Obese cunt ginger stay at home mother somehow defeats the Dark Lord's personally trained, psychotic follower who was feared by the strongest of aurors/good wizard warriors. None of the main characters die during a civil war. Live a horrible life afterwards in the worst epilogue ever written.

The Harry Potter world is one of the best fictional worlds ever created and the first four books were setting Harry up to be an epic badass, then it seemed Rowling took a leaf out of the worst fan fiction writers' book. Now I can name a dozen completed fan stories that ended the series much better than she did.

well friend, while this board was ostensibly set up so that we could be funny while discussing the western canon, it irks me that for every good thread, there seem to be at least ten for Game of Thrones/Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/whatever. that's my first bone to pick; that threads with greater potential to provoke thought, or greater potential for comedy, are pushed off page 15 by an endless series of nearly-identical threads that don't get many replies.

it's not that people enjoy those types of books that bothers me. we all read mindless books from time to time, just because we love reading and it's mentally taxing to constantly grapple with greater works of literature. reading can be a great escape, and a fantasy novel is no different.

but see, i worked in a bookstore. the fantasy section was the smallest section except for poetry, and almost without exception, i can say that the people you would find browsing that section were unsavory manchildren. as such, i am filled with revulsion when people discuss fantasy novels online. the same goes for people who discuss anime and manga! i picture them, pimpled, hanks of greasy hair falling across their thick glasses, while they discuss a topic that i, and serious academia, dismiss out of hand.

i rail against you and yours because i cannot do otherwise. i see you as vermin. i realize that my struggle is futile, and based on some sort of superiority complex, but don't you understand? these books are so childish.

The Potterverse is careful to explain nothing. At all. It's not a complete universe. It literally used 'magic, dont have to explain shit' as an excuse. Where does magic come from? Why are there no downsides to having power? Why are all the wizards and witches so complacent and easily confused by normal things in the muggle world? Why are they so BAD at EVERYTHING? Why can't thousands of wizards stop one asshole with their combined might by divining him and binding him? There's no system of laws or reason in that world; it's internally inconsistent and written entirely train of thought.

The world of Harry potter is, at best, incomplete. It's a concept for a world that never got fleshed out or had basic questions answered.

I'm not saying explain everything. I'm saying explain ANYTHING.

Literally, we have a world here based on magic that has no fucking idea what magic even is. It's the keystone of the world and it's literally glossed over.

Now, of course, this wouldn't come out in the early books. They were written for kids. However, the conceptualization of the series is defined by maturing to meet those same readers when each novel was released. By the end of the series, the novels were going out to late teens/early 20's readers. Adults.

If you're going to critique the world, you have to take into consideration that it was eventually supposed to mature to adult standards, and it never did. What you end up with is a setting that collapses in on itself when someone asks a one word question: Why?
