Looking for good, lesser-known fiction set in the bible belt. Something bleak, vulgar about poverty-stricken white trash. For reference I've recently finished Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison, A Feast of Snakes by Harry Crews, and Crimes in Southern Indiana by Frank Bill

You read any Flannery O’Connor? She’s very fun to read. A lot of discussion surrounding her talks about her faith/hidden meanings in her work, which gives her a reputation a little different from actually reading her work, if that makes sense. She’s very fun to read, and it’s all very weird Bible Belt stuff. I rec getting a copy of her complete stories, Wise Blood, and The Violent Bear It Away
