What do you do when a book is finished?

Depends on the book.

If it's generally considered by society a valuable book for centuries like the King James Bible or Shakespeare's complete works, I'll keep
If it's a philosophy book that I really like, I'll keep (even if I have disagreements with the philosopher)
If it's a history book (especially of the old kind, history's getting rewritten nowadays too much) or a map of a city, country, or of the world inside a book, I'll keep
If it's a dictionary, encyclopedia, etc, I'll keep
If it's literary fiction, I'll either keep if it's a masterpiece (any of Dostoevsky's books, Ulysses, or Don Quixote), otherwise I'll give it away
If it's genre fiction, I'll almost always throw it in the garbage which includes
>Any of Stephen King's books
>Dune books
>Harry Potter books
>The Lord of the Rings books
>Narnia books
>Any of Robert E Howard's books
>Ender's Game
>Hitchhiker's Galaxy whatever-the-fuck-that-shit-book-was-called books
basically any book that doesn't delve into our place in the universe, the human psyche, human (or the entire of the world's) history, or just goes into a made up fantasy land fairytale nonsense, I throw away (with the exception of Lewis Carroll's books, not sure if that's genre fiction but those are good books so I keep) unless someone in my circle like family or friends wants it, then I give away.

I usually put the book into my "read" (past tense) stack for it to be covered in dust while I ponder on it for a few days. Then I go to my "read" (future tense) stack and begin a book that was in there.

I ask /lit/ what I thought about it.

>> No.21001271

>>21000889
I put it back on my shelf and then give myself a certain amount of time to think on it as necessary. Some books require a day or two tops, others a week at most. There’s only been one book that required more and it really didn’t let me enjoy any others for a couple of months.
