The basic Penguin Classics edition is just simply not good for long-term use. I really had how the black on the spines start flaking off after just one read. Never had that problem with NYRB, their paperbacks are just more robust and in my opinion feels better to read

Penguin Classics publishes and translates better books in general. A lot of NYRB is just kind of deep cuts. People like Buoy Cesares are cool authors but you can't really build a foundation in literature with those kinds of writers.
