Is Taleb this century’s greatest thinker or another stinky Lebanese pseud?

He's a retired trader that now writes books that are a mix of statistics and philosophy. He also Varg-posts on Twitter except about Mediterranean people/life and is surprisingly easy to bait. For all the memes, his books are good if you're a young professional.

Redpill me on this guy. He acts like a moron on twitter; are his books actually great?

Young professional in general or traders? I keep mixing him up with that russian guy who wrote a bunch of allegedly important philosophical texts.

What about his statistics tutorials on YouTube where he writes some code is it worth watching? Can I get rich trading if I follow those methods for example black-schools algorithm or something

>> No.20997583

>>20997287
Not him but his books are good if you're in any way interested in philosophy or economics. I don't think it matters whatsoever your actual profession, farmers should read him for sure

I meant young professionals as in anyone working an office job and is paid a salary. But I do agree with >>20997583
Like most fields of education, you can graft terms into other fields. Nassim's concepts (Black swan, anti-fragile, etc.) are easily applied to more than just trading and business

He has really interesting ideas but you can see his retardation shine through even in his better works like The Black Swan. On statistical analysis he talks sense, but when he tries to reinforce his ideas with philosophy (or rather critique of philosophy) he isn't nearly well read enough in this area to not sound retarded. His "platonic gap" concept has been extensively discussed in far more detail by authors he fails to recognise or understand; he knows Hume and that retard Popper and that's it. Black Swan is still something I recommend to everyone I come across, but with a "despite the author" rather than "for the author"

Bought a copy of Black Swan at a church shop for 50 cents
I have no interest in economics and finance, hardly any interest in philosophy either and yet I read about 20 pages completely rapt

>> No.20999486

His writing style is completely insufferable, even if he makes okay points.

Most of what he writes is him smelling his own farts and developing a theory out of that. Basically, do good and maybe have a second job on the side. And don't forget to expect the unexpected!

Arab pseud.

There is this perverse mindset among humans , where their infatuation by a mere tweet makes them a mental servant of the author.
This form of servitude is a remnant of group alignment, rather than individualism.
