how does one make a living as a scifi/fantasy/romance writer? i write plenty of emails at work and ive written two thesis but thats no fun. i hate my boring offoce job so much i want to quit so badly but theres no way i could make a living off writing anytime soon. i feel so stupid and hopeless.. what should i do?

Pick your favorite genre, read widely in it, then write your own book. Make sure you're aware of word counts for the genre/age demographic beforehand so you don't have to go through the hell of reducing word count like I currently am.

2. Get them to follow you on patron & do special requests/commissions

where do you think those readers are coming from in the first place? getting your name out there is the hard part. it used to be that quality was important and then the people would come where as now its getting your name out there. even if you shell out and blast out 10k ARCs these days you will get fuck all back from it.
