It's my favorite after the hobbit. More bible-like than an adventure so go with the right expectations.

Did you read the preface? You understand what you're reading is just world building backstory? The first fifty are great. Better than the Bible's creation myth.

I’m about the same amount in and I’m digging it, it’s definitely an adjustment going from more traditionally written fiction though

so what about the bibles creation story is good in your opinion and what makes the silmarillion better

It’s too much. The fantasy begins to crumple under its own weight. The lore is handled much better in tlotr where you get snippets here and there amongst the mundane and often boring reality of trudging on the quest

In my teens I ran a role-playng game set in Middle Earth, and this made an ideal source-book for it. Beyond that, I had little use for it.
If you're hungry for more classic fantasy, try ER Eddison.

The creation myth is great, but to answer your (unasked) question, no, the rest of the book isn't like that. There will be actual tragic stories with events, characters and plot.

Just keep on reading.

I also thought this at first being that in the first five chapters there might be as many as 100 new terms including names of characters, places, events, ranging from very significant to very insignificant, and some of these new terms may have conjugated forms that are not recognizable as being part of their root, and that’s too much for any non autist to remember. Then I realized it has a glossary in the back, and it was fine. The really important stuff you will remember after you see it a few times.
