20925438 No.20925438 [Reply] [Original]

>Just as a stream runs unrestrainedly as long as it encounters no obstacles, so in human nature, as in animal nature, life runs unconsciously and carelessly when something opposes its will. If attention is aroused, it is because the will was not free and some shock has occurred.

>Everything that stands in front of our will, everything that opposes or resists it, that is, everything that is unpleasant and painful, we feel it very keenly and continuously.
>We do not pay attention to the general health of our body, but we notice the slight point where our shoes hurt us; we do not appreciate the prosperous whole of our business, and we only think of an insignificant trifle that displeases us. - Well-being and happiness are therefore negative, only pain is positive.

>I know of nothing more absurd than the majority of metaphysical systems, which explain evil as a negative thing; on the contrary, only evil is positive, since it makes itself felt... Goodness, happiness, satisfaction are negative, because they do nothing but suppress a desire and end a displeasure.

>Against every satisfied desire there are ten that are not

If I hold my breath for 15 seconds, breathing and having a healthy nose and lungs will feel amazing.
Why are schopy’s points always so easily refutable?

The effect of drugs is positive yet not painful. Obviously Schopenhauer never tripped.

>because they do nothing but ... end a displeasure.

>Actually, one can only visualize the Will as negative, resisting things it does not desire. That is awful! And so it was a great stroke of genius on Goethe’s part to depict Mephisto just as the spirit of negation.

This seems really cool and easy to grasp. I'm really interested in the concept of will in particular and how he talks about suffering. Do his works have beautiful poetic passages akin to Nietzsche, Bataille and Land? Where should I start if I decide to start reading his works?

The first book of the critique of pure reason by Kant, that is if you wish to grasp what Schopenhauer means by 'will'.

Well that's just a lie, and isn't even concurred by Schopenhauer in other places. I swear sometimes Schopenhauer just throws aside rationality so he can make a cool sounding pessimistic anecdote and fuel his own misanthropy.

begin with:
>a critique of pure reason by kant
>Parerga and Paralipomena by Schop
>in the fourfold root of the principle of sufficient reason

Then:
>the world as will and representation by Schop
>the wisdom of life by Schop
>on the basis of morality by Schop
>on the freedom of the will by Schop

For lulz
>on women
>the art of being right

Sounds like depression desu, or at least some state of mind adjacent to it. I feel the general healthyness of my body on a daily basis and it makes me feel good. Simple being alive feels like the greatest blessing on the best days.
