PLEASE TALK ABOUT MY FAVORITE FUCKING MILITARY SCI-FI NOVELS. God, I fucking love this series so much that I learned Japanese just to read books 3 and 4. Despite the OP image, this is exclusively a Yukikaze novel thread, because while the OVA is visually beautiful, I don't think its plotline quite does the novels justice.

This series is based as fuck but I wish Rei isn't as boring as he is, I don't speak moon runes so idk if he gets better in books three and four

I like that about him. He's a machine, basically one of Yukikaze's combat systems. The series is about him gaining a sense of self and becoming an individual beyond her.

Also, by book two he's already started to change and get better after Yukikaze "betrays" him. He's detached, not boring or static.

I read the books back in high school so I probably just wasn't old enough to really read between the lines. I remember getting into it for the air combat and plane autism

On an unrelated note, do you know if there are there any English translations for books three and four anywhere? I'd love to finish the series but I don't think I want to straight-up learn Japanese like you did

I don't think so. The organization that was translating the books, Haikasoru, is pretty much defunct. There was one autist on Reddit who was attempting to translate book three, Unbroken Arrow, on his own, but that shit went belly up years ago.

Wanting to fuck a female fighter plane does not make you gay.

Don't suppose there are html files of it anywhere (for the purpose of reading it with rikai lookup)? If so I'd strongly consider reading it.

I heard somewhere that Chohei Kambayashi actually had to buff the planes in Yukikaze at some point after he wrote the original books because their specs were being matched by actual 5th gen planes, does anyone know if this is true?

Bullshit. Jets like the F-22 cannot super-cruise at Mach 3, pull 16 G's, or fire 4+ missiles at once like Yukikaze does in literally the first book.

>>20924504
...Like I said, I heard that he had to RETROACTIVELY buff the Yukikaze planes because the real planes caught up. We'd need a first edition book to know for sure

>High speed supercruise
Literally the whole point the Sylphs exist
>High g limit due to no human pilot
Last time I checked 5th gen fighters had to be manned.
> fire 4+ missiles at once
There are multiple times this is comes up when explaining how multiple JAM are destroyed at the same time

The story would literally not make sense if the fighters were limited to current 5th gen capabilities. I don't know what fucking tabloids you're reading, but it would be very noticeable if the author just fudged numbers like you claim. Fucking dumbass.

That's absolute crap. Flight and armament specs gap between gen 4 and gen 5 is really blurry and kinda small - most of the defining advances are in stealth, sensors, battlefield integration and comms.
