Just finished reading IT on recommendation. Ending was rushed desu, but the 900 pages leading up to it was so sweet. The horror elements actually work in 2 ways: first that everything is narrated through the lens of children, and the fear they experience is naive and innocent and nostalgic and really taps into our own nostalgic fears, and second, that the adults in Derry are either unaware or complicit in the horrors and tragedies happening in the town, leading to a sense or doom and helplessness.
