>remember that only 7 of Aeschylus' plays survive
>countless masterpieces equivalent to the complete works of Shakespeare just gone

That's good, it would make cruising through western thought even more of a nuisance. Knowledge is a burden.

How do we know that his writings weren't just lecture notes?
Someone could have lied about it to make future people mad

still not saying much and Cicero is only good for knowing what were out there not knowing their philosophical merit.
Dude was the tutor of the greatest ancient conqueror who spread the greek language throughout his kingdom, but no version of Aristotle’s books survived. That is proof enough of how shit they must have been.

>still not saying much and Cicero is only good for knowing what were out there not knowing their philosophical merit, considering Cicero studied philosophy since his youth.
That sounds like your opinion and not actual fact.
>Dude was the tutor of the greatest ancient conqueror who spread the greek language throughout his kingdom, but no version of Aristotle’s books survived.
The same thing applies to basically all ancient Greek works from that period. There are far more authors who had nothing at all survive. And clearly Aristotle's works were preserved up until at least Cicero's time, if not longer then likely due to the general chaos of the following times, and not because of a failure of Aristotle's popularity during the Diadochi and classical period.

so why did all of Plato remain?

weird man, so weird. history is like a capricious jilt man, it makes no sense how these “””””””great””””””” texts dient survive since they were the greatest! :(
