I've been looking for the name and author of this story for a long time now. One of my high school teachers read this to our class during our Dutch lessons. Therefore I assumed it was a Dutch writer. The story stuck with me, but since I only remembered the general premise of the story I wasn't able to find out who the writer was. Neat to finally know it now!
