i am drinking instant coffee and trying to get through infinite jest, and I'm about half way. I'll be honest anons, it's far better than I expected based on reading that people here seem to dislike it for some reason. My favourite part so far has been the description of the guy going through drug withdrawal and having a seizure. That shit was beautiful.

What a great book. I've been trying to foist it on everyone I know since I first read it, without much success. Every time I reread the book or rewatch the movie some new angle on the story suggests itself to me. Have you read "The Samurai"?

It's also by Endo, also based on unusual episodes in the history of Catholicism in Japan.

selected poems - yannis ritsos

i gave up drinking a few months ago. i have a cup of tea.

these poems are nonsense, by the way. some of them i do like for the imagery of them, the strangeness, the sound. but i do have a low tolerance for pure nonsense, which this seems to be.

Almost done reading. I had way more fun reading this than watching the movie, but the longer pornographic scenes are tough to get through. The way Ellis arranges Bateman's thoughts through the story is really interesting because most of the time he can't end a paragraph thinking about violence. He has to change the subject back to something hip like his crocodile loafers or compact discs. Once I started noticing the shape of how Bateman was relating his life I could feel him slipping away before he even mentions his Halcion not working so well.
