It seems his only exposure to reading books is low quality fiction written to entertain housewives. He could say the same thing about movies and tv shows, most of those are similarly low quality schlock.

Obviously there's a wide array of useful non-fiction and classics which can improve your life and mindset. Just have to know where to look.
