I've been reading the first book over the past two weeks. It's great aside from the desert slog chapters in the midsection and the evolution of the Baron from intimidating evil villain to vaguely cowardly bad guy. Prose is very dry but not deserving of the reputation it has - the pragmatic nature of it emphasises the beauty of certain flowery passages.
