This is the highest rated book on Goodreads. Is it deserving of its position?

No, but I sincerely enjoyed The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance. They were the most enjoyable reads I've had in modern fantasy. Not the best writing mind you. I dropped the series after reading Oathbringer because Sanderson is basically just shitting out padded books with no quality control at this point in time.

No, but it is better than Harry Potter shit which used to be #1, so a step in the right direction.

it's anime in prose form, with less coombait and more "ackchyually". It's ok entertainment.

compared to david gemmell?

Read the first two Stormlight books and they remind me of modern television shows, the kind where the opening episode/chapters serves as a hook, then the vast bulk of the book/season is characters spinning their wheels until the last episode/chapter climaxes in a manner that rather than resolving anything acts as a cliff-hanger for the next book/season. A cliffhanger that is inevitably resolved in the first episode/chapters of the next book/season so it can do the same thing all over again.
