You guys know any good books written by people who don't primarily write books? Not nonfiction, every celebrity and politician writes a biography or something, I mean like pic related. I picked it up because I love The Residents but it was pretty disappointing and badly written, finishing it strictly for the novelty.

Cherry by Nico Walker, I think. I didn’t finish it, but iirc he just decided to write in prison and got it published.

Most people get filtered by his style and he does lean a little to heavily on alliteration but it works well within context of the novel. His ability to set scenes and characters is insanely impressive. I hope he keeps writing and developing his skill but I think he has only written a sequel so far and I assume it will have much the same style and show little growth.

Lately I have been reading The Knot by Michael Gira, pretty good so far.

Really thinking about picking up The Knot but $75 is pretty steep. Is the writing worth it or is it essentially a lyrics/artbook?

If you dislike it you can double your money on ebay after it sells out.

You get all the lyrics which are formatted as paragraphs so do not take up much of the page count, and the journal entries/stories written at the same time as the lyrics, so an albums worth lyrics and then the other writings which were written during the same period. It is interesting and gives good insight into his writing process. The journal entries are rarely straight journal entries and more like short stories, he only tends to do the standard journal entry after big events in his life like after he goes to the Johnny Cash concert and discovers his idol is a just a broken down old drunk acting a fool on stage and that is the exact life he (gira) has chosen for himself.

The art section is only like 50 pages, some good stuff there, a couple fantastic paintings from before he decided to pursue music, some edgy self portraits from about the same time, a bunch of scaned pages of writing and various bits of art. Book is probably over 50% journals and stories. Sadly there is very littler writing from The Angles of Light period which is what would have interested me most.

Sounds worth it then, thanks anon.
