I use ebook reader for a first readthru before deciding whether to add a book to my reread library physically. If I think the text is worth chewing through, making annotations, perusing, and whatnot, then physical is better. Usually ebook readers suck with poetry though

That would allow authorities to know what I am reading. Glow more nigger

>> No.20737665

i reevaluated my stance on ebooks when i read a post somebody made here
that every "great author" from ancient to modern would never put one of these down had they been given access
of course i dont think quantity read means anything specific nor is reading simply to emulate "great authors", but it made me think about why having the physical book mattered to me beyond consooming/collecting:
>it didn't
there is essentially no benefit in attempting to learn more from a physical book than a pdf as long as you yourself write.

Physical book is way better for referencing, annotation, and all sorts of other complex knowledge munching techniques imo. For hefty stuff I make sure to print it rather than just go off the pdf

>> No.20737680

>>20737672
yeah i can agree with that, citing a pdf is fucking annoying. i'd print it but i just find it wasteful and redundant to have a giant stack of papers that take up far more space than they need to to convey the given information, maybe thats just autism tho

Personally I buy all my ebooks from Amazon.

And before someone starts to talk about "MUH WASTE OF MONEY!"
Most ebooks of non copyright protected books (old books) are literally free on Amazon, or you get hundreds for $1.
Even new books are just a fraction of the physical books (depends on the writer, but it's pretty normal to get a new book for only a few $).

The biggest reason why I buy those books is simply because not only are they either cheap or even free, but the convenience is the best thing. I can just buy a new Kindle (either if my old got destroyed, or a new Kindle with insanely good features comes out) and I can just download them all and have my library with me (also, most bought ebooks are allowed to be simultaneously read, so you can even give everyone in your family a Kindle and just buy a book once for the whole family).
Also, and this is why I don't understand people who pirate ebooks (except your are poor and got fucked by the system), because the biggest price of an ebook is not the amount you pay in $. It's the time you are reading the books (some can easily take over 50 hours). If I buy an ebook, I know it's worth reading. I wouldn't even read a free ebook if it isn't good. That's why I have no problem spending a few $ for a book which will take me weeks to read (and reread).

But yeah. The Kindle is just amazing and especially if you are poor there is nothing better than having a Kindle to read.
Personally I'm still a big physical collector of books I reread all the time. But even I switch to the Kindle from time to time because stuff like water damage, awkward holding, heavy books, and so much other shit of physical books is something the Kindle solves perfectly.
The only major issue of the Kindle is that you don't have the feeling of "honest progression". Every time I read on my Kindle I'm either very suspicious if something was deleted from my book, or how far I progressed. Even the percentage number is not even close to having a physical book in front of you and the pages showing you how far you are (I wish that the Kindle had some kind of side visual hint that shows you where you are in the book on the left and right side with some kind of visual "pages", like lines which are more like some kind of percentage, but more visually than the boring bottom number).

The only reason to really have physical books is simple to make sure that nothing can get modified (and if you book is old enough to have no copyright anymore, the physical book is literally free real estate you can use at your pleasure, without fearing to violate the copyright of minor changes to a book)

I generally prefer reading on paper. There is something to be said about the tactile experience of reading a physical book.

That being said, I do want an e-reader. I'm just waiting until we get quality color e-ink to pick one up.

>I do it to look like a pretentious faglord reading Kant in public

Kidding, I read on the phone, but it's also inconvenient when dealing with boomers or anyone really because their immediate impression is that I'm le glued to a screen™. I understand the meme of not caring, but impressions lead to various circumstances that I feel like I'd avoid if I held on to physical books for my dear life. Maybe I'd even become praiseworthy in their eyes.
>Good boy, atta boy..

For this reason I considered getting an ereader to maybe alleviate some of it but I can't really justify the the consooming when my Redmi 9 phone that I'm used to reading on is still performing perfectly.

Honestly I dont think there is anything to be said about the aesthetics of holding a book and reading it. I do about 50-50 book to ebook and by far get more "into" the story with the ebook.
When it comes to philosophy books then I prefer the printed book simply to preserve the structure of the arguments.
Story mode = ebook
Philosophy mode = book

I did this and it's alright I guess. The only real problem is reading those books were some degenerate scanned 2 pages at once and shoved it into one page. Those fucking suck on the ereader.
The transfer is a bit inconvenient because you have to download them before hand (unlike in the cellphone or computer where you can search/receive them and open it), but if you know you'll need it beforehand it's fine. There might be a way around this, but I don't currently know.

I read a lot of history, and for that you want to be able to easily access the maps which can be more effort on an ereader. Also the quality of images and maps is shite on a kindle.

For a reader of pop fiction like you, yeah an ereader is probably best.

Amazon has worlwide wi-fe set up to automatically and autonomously have it's devices connect to it. They all have pseudo (rustic and low capacity, built along the original device so can't be found) cameras microphones and gps built in order to have data sent secretly.

You vastly overestimate the average normie. Think about how retarded the average person is, and then consider the fact that statistically half of them are more retarded than that.
