One more post on the matter.
Jan: continued from previous choices
Feb: Only 1 book because I was still deciding on what I wanted to do.
Mar: See above
Apr: Just allowed whatever was posted in the thread
>>/lit/thread/S20121746#p20121764

May:
I picked 1 book per week as the cover, but also posted in the thread and in the description text on GR many other books. Example:
>>/lit/thread/S20343976#p20346469

June:
I was going to do the 4 per week here, but I couldn't find enough suitable books to do 4 for each, so I just put 4 for the entire month rather than 1 per week.

July:
I got around to doing multiple per week to feature, because that seemed more like it'd serve the purpose of potentially getting people to read more, even if it's without discussion. I could say more on this topic, but eh.
>>/lit/thread/S20594647#p20595527

August:
I have ideas for the theme, but I'm open to suggestions. It'll probably be 4 for the entire month again.

Hey, what do you like to see in the gods of fantasy settings and why? Like, how powerful they are, if they can be killed, how their domains work, that kind of thing. Besides the common answer of making them dependent on mortal faith for survival, what are some things that a lot of authors do that you hate and why?

>> No.20605917

I like when they are left either totally out of the story or are more defined with rules, like the Malazan ones

The cosmere ones are interesting, they have rules/limitations but I also don't understand the limitations, especially concerning odium. I feel like he's retarded because he should have been able to influence a lot more people than he did.

20605994

>>20605917
I'm a fan of the Cosmere books too, in regards to Odium one thing that you have to remember is that he's kind of a coward, like how he 'could' destroy the Stormfather easily if he wanted to use his full power, but he'd expose himself to a strike from Cultivation, who hates him for killing her lover Honor, and he won't make himself vulnerable for but a moment. Among other flaws of course.

I haven't read the Malazan books, what do you like about the gods there? How do their limits compare to the gods of the Cosmere?

The ending pissed me off.

Natalie and Saul ''win'' by lowering themselves to the same level as the creatures they despise so much: manipulating Melanie into conditioning and finally Using an innocent military man into ordering the bombing of the island and yacht. They knew very well that later that man would be convicted in a military court and spent the rest of his life in prison or get the death sentence (if Melanie didn't dispose of him before that). They ruined an innocent man's life. How is that different from the Oberst ruining the life of the man he used to kill Lee Harvey Oswald, or Melanie Using Natalie's father to achieve her immediate goals? Natalie is extra hypocritical for the line ''no one deserves to die like an extra in a B horror movie''. It tuns out our heroes are no different from the Mossad or Palestinian terrorists that would do anything to reach their objectives. The Oberst was right, him and Saul were not so different after all. Also their masterplan was to infiltrate a geriatric scholar into the island so he could play Rambo and NOT be killed, Used or captured in a thousand different ways that would ruin the mission, in the hopes that he could reach the very specific scenario of being alone with the Oberst and being Used by him? That is so incredibly stupid. Tony Harod, who seemed to be on a genuine path of self-improvement, if not redemption, gets the short end of the stick. While Saul and Natalie get a happy ending. If he relapsed into his old habits and Used that child actress again, he would notice the gun and survive. He only died because he was the only one that managed to turn into a (slightly) better person at the end of the story. I have to admit that I enjoyed the final twist of Melanie being alive, she somehow manages to be the most stupid and most clever character at the same time.

Someone once said to me that a good fight scene between two characters should feel like a "dialogue without words" and I've found that to be true. Beyond just striking imagery and good pacing (both of which are very important) there should be a sense of something being communicated between the characters if you're going to contrive a one on one fight scene.

If only Anons knew how degenerated The Wandering Inn gets they would instantly start to read it. There are few stories that have this much racism, rape, genocide, torture, necrophilia, abuse etc. I gotta read this Bekker stuff to compare whether it gets as dark as TWI, that would be an achievment for Bekker.

No, they are not. They are my least favourite couple in TWI. Pawn is two years old. I remember his perspective where he thinks about how he is not sure if what he is feeling is romantic love and then she tells him to not worry about it. That's the opposite of cute.

Pirateaba can't do romance. Vol 8 spoilers: Niers and Erin have a 40 year age gap. Ryoka and Tryion had at least 20. The story has many furry or scaley relationships. The closest thing to a cute relationship the story came to was Talia and Rabbiteater and I don't want to list the numerous problems I have with how that is being developed.

I'll not dispute Pirateaba doing romance badly, only Imani and Palt are decent, but I don't Rabbiteater and Talia are supposed to be a romance now, Pirate did a pivot from that. As for Ants, Pirateaba does this weird thing where some races like Ants and Goblins are both young and old. With humans we would argue they are too young, but if Pirate says they are mentally mature, they are, you cannot really argue with a premise. And Ryoka+Tyrion is horrible, hope Pirate will drop it. But now that he was threw back in time...

>Fuck I really don't understand why people want illustrations in their books It makes me mad
It's not that hard to understand anon. I don't know what a "Rygtha" looks like based on the description paragraph on page 96 of Reaper's Gale. I've seen about six illustrations of that axe and they're all different, so it's clear that I'm not the only one that has trouble picturing it. If anything it's weird that more authors steadfastly refuse to provide illustrations as if doing so would somehow soil the purity of their paperback genre fiction. I've seen people put more effort into sketching out a birdhouse they were building. It's a simple communication problem. The simplest solution is to provide a diagram and more authors should consider this. The worst is complicated battles with dozens of regiments traversing complex terrain. For crying out loud, provide a rough sketch of the land to help your readers set the scene in their mind.

Well wouldn't it make it trivially easy to cause coloumbic explosions? All matter is pure energy held together only by geometry, if you cut someone in half with space magic they'd probably explode like TNT.
At the very least everything you use space magic on would become EXTREMELY radioactive and there'd be constant flashes of light, bolts of electricity, things randomly catching on fire, metals turning transparent, the air turning opaque, ice catching on fire, light being distorted and refracted into all sorts of flashing and strobing rays, etc... And in the longterm or with big magic basically anyone anywhere near it would almost immediately get horribly sick and die if they weren't killed by the energetic phenomena.
A space wizard would be like a radioactive disco rave laser show and I imagine 90% of space magic would be ways to contain all the space magic so you don't kill yourself using it.

Besides that, or if you don't use those effects, there'd be all sorts of strange counterintuitive physics going on because of relative densities like extremely light or heavy objects, distorted solid objects tied into knots, noneuclidean mazes, momentum being all out of whack, etc...

Anon, this makes that relationship authentic. People IRL don't get together in some epic, dramatic way that's a plot point. Out of every relationship in the story Palt and Imani make the most sense.

Idk, I've read much worse 'romance' plotlines than those in TWI, I can't even say these are bad compared to Fantasy's usual 'they instantly fall in love and it's a great event and love story that spans the entire series.' Here people just like each other. Pirate definitely gets way more shit for it than it's warranted.

I read so much mythology just to read about Gods (i.e, Iliad, Paradise Lost, Keats Hypeion, Prometheus Unbound) and especially loved Tolkien's Valar because they were like, primeval gods that had a raiment based off of their status. Like Varda was basically made out of light and stars, similar to the Greek Titans and primordials.

The concept fascinates me, and Malazan seems to be the only book that includes Gods on the scale I like in fantasy. I'm going to read Prince of Nothing but I expect I won't get any divine powers.

My friend, you may unironically be interested in The Wandering Inn, a story in which the main characters gets isekaied to a world where Gods are dead...and they are trying very hard to come back..

If you are interested, [Big Spoilers for the plot] there are also Fae, Angels, Devils and other races commonly associated with the divines. However, this stuff has its periodic appearances in the plot from time to time, until later volumes where it becomes truly the main plot and everything more or less resolves around Dead Gods trying to will themselves back to live. It's absolute kino. Gods in TWI truly feel divine and mysterious, not just some cliche people with superpowers like in other stories.

Even more spoilers, the story also includes a race of Ant people created by a Sleeping God deep underground, who have tried to kill the said God for the last few thousand years, sending a crusade after crusade to storm Hell itself. Absolutely metal.

Anything that came out pre-2015 is pure, distilled SOVL whether you like it or not.

You can really tell that Lucas put a lot of soul into it whenever you see his interviews about Star Wars. He was an artist, a flawed one, but an artist nonetheless and I can respect him for it.

Someone should really make a different thread, the new thread is just pure bait and made by a shitposter.

The level of detail put into things that almost no one will ever notice, just for the sake of the lore in this universe he's created, shows how much of his heart and soul he poured into even the prequels which are so often accused of being half-assed.

I love the prequel trilogy; I truly think its George Lucas at his best. He was trying to tell his story and I can respect him for it. Dude went all out. Did he stumble? Yes. But who hasn't? He shouldn't have been crucified for it. Watching behind the scenes on the prequel trilogy really puts a different spin to it.

It's just clunky dialog and some scenes could have used a few retakes. From what I've heard, he didn't even want to direct them, but all of his director friends were either too busy, or didn't want to touch it because it was too big of a project.

Honestly, if you love the prequels, you should try reading the novelizations if you haven't. They really flesh out the story and show the true potential the prequel trilogy had if only they were executed just a little better.

I only read the Revenge of the Sith novelization and it was fucking Kino, I never got around to reading Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones novels.
