Hey guys I have a literary question for you all.

What do you think is the best metaphor for racism you have ever seen in a story?

Some writers use fantasy races like elves and orcs, like in Shadowrun or Bright. Other writers use animals, such as Aesop's fables, Animal Farm or Watership Down.

Can you guys please give me your thoughts? What is the best metaphor for racism you've ever seen in a story? I'm asking as research for my writing project.

Thank you very much to everyone who has a moment to respond!

Metaphors for racism are stupid any time you make the distance between races larger, like when fantasy works use elves - dwarves. It just makes it easier to chose a side you like more when the whole point is to give readers the feeling that individuals from different races should be treated equal.

The different animals on the farm are not metaphors for different races you blathering retard. If you put this into whatever your project is you're going to look extremely stupid.

This isn't the point, the point should be to show you that even if different races may have much in common, their interests are best served through ethno-centrism.

this is like when Blight makes the orcs an allegory for black relations and you're supposed to be sympathetic to their plight. Except that they're literally hideous genocidal monsters.

There is no good metaphor for racism (including "allegory" under metaphor here, since you use Animal Farm as an example). Animal Farm is about class relations and not about racism anyway.
If you want to discuss a serious problem as a writer, discuss it or don't discuss it, but fuck off with shrouding it in metaphor, deforming and banalising the reality in both intentional and unintetntional ways.
