By Big Yud? No.

But I've read Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality.

no. rationalists are worried about how an AI might use information to manipulate us without anyone realizing, right? i'm convinced that's what's happening in the bay area: an evil AI is stringing words together to convince programmers to cut their dicks off and is calling it "rationalism".

I read Rationality (and HPMOR) back when I still thought that science and rational thought are the only worthwhile ways to understand the world. Back then I liked it. I hadn't really read any philosophy at that point and it introduced me to a lot of philosophical ideas and thinking so in that sense it was important for me. Haven't gone back to it since so I can't say what I'd think of it now.

I started reading it once but I got the impression it was largely just repackaged Kahneman so I stopped

Yud's okay, but way too scattershot. I'd prefer someone more concise and better organized with presenting their insights.

I read them when I was 17.
>the good
He does talk about cognitive biases and logical fallacies, which are useful to know, but you can read those from better books like Thinking Fast and Slow
>the bad
He's wrong about physics, biology, sociology, philosophy, and everything else.

It's very odd, I find Scott Alexander to consistently be very insightful, but Yud just seems like an idiot. And yet Scott reveres him. Can't wrap my head around it.
