and read about something you enjoy talking about, and if you happen to be interested in philosophy and philosophy of politics, I would recommend starting with Bertrand Russels History of Western Philosophy, then slowly progress to Platos Republic and then perhaps finish the rest of the Greeks and just see what you enjoy.

Until you are better familiar with philosophy ignore marxist cultists, always keep in mind that marxism is a pseudo-christian religious cult, and should be from contemporary perspective always treated as such. Not saying its wrong, but noone takes Marx too seriously today.

By reading what other people think? Literature isn't different, you just have to pay money to read long winded shitposts and you're more likely to get caught up by the sunk cost fallacy. Get off the internet for a while, stop trying to distract your brain every minute of every day and embrace your discomfort with that.

Alright OP, first off, just by being willing to challenge your worldview you're already doing pretty well. Do what first post says and start with the Greeks, then branch off from there into whichever traditions catch your eye as plausible/interesting/meaningful. Don't just read philosophy though, give fiction a chance as well.

It's a bit large due to being a history book but I recommend Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley. It can help you understand from a historian standpoint how civilizations really work and how they stop working. It will give you a more sober and less dogmatic birds eye view of the world. I also recommend any small textbooks on comparative religion to understand what a community (nationalism, religion, etc) and you will begin to see how each group really is not monolithic at all.
From there it can be helpful to look at literary canon from different parts of the world to understand the lens that people see the world in. I am not suggesting that identity or community don't matter, I personally think they do but there is a limit to what a civilization can achieve looking through history we all face a reckoning eventually. Western Civilization is a very unique case that has survived 2 and seemingly 3 civilization ending events (the plague, American Revolution, and WWII). Good luck on your journey anon, just remember to read every day, there is a lot to read.

Nationalist, not internationalist.
Slow to change, not rapid.
Greater value in past morality than finding new ones.
Unity, conformity and heirarchy.
One dominant culture and group, not many competing ones.

People can argue about issues, but these overall concepts ring true.

Just read more serious versions of what you have been exposed to and actually try to justify your beliefs.

Good starting points:
>Christopher Lasch, The Revolt of the Elites and the Betrayal of Democracy
>Lasch, The True and Only Heaven
>Buchanan, anything really
>T.S. Eliot, Notes Toward the Definition of Culture
>Hayek, Road to Serfdom (yes, really, actually a good book)
>Gasset, The Revolt of the Masses
>Russell Kirk, The Conservative Mind (or Scruton if you want an even easier introduction)
>Samuel Francis, Beautiful Losers
These are some softer but non-meme versions of large parts of /pol/'s worldview.

Reading Marx/Engels is a waste of time without a grounding in basic economics at a minimum, and it's utility is questionable. 2. Leave this board/site. Scroll through the threads and tell me if this is really a good way to spend your time. Lit has just become the second Pol with mentally ill nationalists, esotericists and tradcaths on the one side and shitposters who just want to get a reaction on the other. And even if you are right-wing or whatever this place should still be a waste if you have any sense of self-worth. Read Davila if you want some intelligent, reflected and reactionary aphorisms — or maybe Simone Weil. You can't also go wrong with Marx, even if you end up disagreeing with many of his ideas. Ignoring him because dogmatic marxists are retarded would make you no different from a redditor who doesn't want to read Plato, Nietzsche, Lovecraft because they're "problematic".
