In 1969 the conceptual artist Douglas Huebler wrote, “The world is full of objects, more or less interesting; I do not wish to add any more.” I’ve come to embrace Huebler’s ideas, though it might be retooled as “The world is full of texts, more or less interesting; I do not wish to add any more.”

There's nothing weirder than watching in real time how your status immediately raises in leaps and bounds as soon as you're seen with a woman or child in public.
It's startling to realize than if you're just a dude walking down the street, you're automatically relegated to the category of "possible threat". I don't mean that in an incel way, I just mean that you're a nobody, totally anonymous, without context or purpose.
Walk with a woman by your side, could be your sister, mother, coworker, or girlfriend, and immediately people treat you with dignity and smile at you. Especially if the woman is attractive, and especially if you're out with a child (niece in my case). It's like you've finally gotten someone to vouch for you.

I think women underestimate -- nay, will never understand -- what it's like to be a man in this regard. You're nobody. If you're just some guy, people have no reason to ever look at you. Maybe they will if they're generous people, but it's definitely not a given thing.
I have gone to the same coffee shops, restaurants and book stores for years, and even though I have a generally kind demeanor and I'm not ugly (though I am unusually tall), people don't seem to want to notice a man who is by himself.

Today I went out with my niece to the same neighborhood I go to every weekend, and suddenly people are very kind. Of course I'm not complaining about this, and it's obvious that people want to be nice around kids, but still, it's a sober reminder that solitary men will never live in the same world. Normally when I walk into this one shop -- and it's a hobby store so it's not like a shady convenience store where people are assumed anonymity -- the shopkeeper will just just be look at me for a moment and go, "Hey," before looking back at her phone. Today, she smiled at both of us for more than a moment, and asked us how our day was. Then she gave us free shit at the counter and made small talk with me and did that prosocial fake laughter that's actually cute.

I actually miss this about my old girlfriend. It was such an expected ambience.

If you're able, go have kids, anon.

UNexpected ambience, I mean. Typo.
By the way, I remember the first time I went out with this very cute girl for a friend date (an artist friend of mine and quite fashionable), I believe she made small talk at least 4-5 times that day ON THE STREET, and I'm talking strangers sincerely making each other laugh to just to brighten each other's day. Amazing. People talked to me like I was a real somebody.

Fuck. The last time somebody talked to me in public was two days ago when I had an awkward altercation with a bus driver who berated me for boarding too quickly after a wheel-chaired women, and who proceeded say some shit under his breath until I told him to stop talking to me. That same day some other guy mean mugged me. He was talking to some chick when we accidentally made eye contact and that clearly triggered something in him. He ironically said, "How's YOUR day?" as I passed him. I just said, "Good. How you doing?" Then he said, "You don't look so good, maybe you need to chill out."
Fucking weird. The only thing I can think of is that people say I have a cold demeanor, but so what? I do nothing but mind my business all day, and I don't have to impress strangers.

I'm not particularly sensitive to this stuff, but I just think it's something men have that we never talk about. It's crazy that when men tell little anecdotes like that, literally every other man in the room will unload several similar stories of being harassed for no reason.

Do NOT fall for this life-cuckoldry trap. By having kids you are damning them into this same hell for no other reason than that you want to follow your evolutionary programming and have a social prop to grease the wheels. Don't fall for life's trap of forcing new life to go through this same bullshit for no real reason, no true metaphysical purpose. I was legit diagnosed as a speg as a kid. I've always felt like a oddity and like I couldn't do "normal life things". And yet I can't really identify with other spergs, when they describe their experiences: the ambiguity of their own feelings, the confusion about social cues or the feelings of others, or why so many of them are trans. I just can't relate to it which is very curious because you'd assume I'd feel like I finally found "my tribe". I find it easy to talk to them, that sort of meandering information dump is very easy for me to follow. However I find it relatively easy to talk most people.
For the record nowadays while I know I'm not normal (I'm not in a long term relationship and working a white collar job and have two dogs and a SUV), I don't feel as weird as I could be. And I feel like I have most of the life skills of most people my age, dating a slightly older woman really opened my eyes. I discovered I had many "life skills", some which were better than hers.
It's weird, being this stranger in your native land, and then you meet other strangers that should be just like you but you still feel like a stranger.
Thank you for reading, that's what's on my mind.

I saw an old friend for the first time in about ten years yesterday. We picked up where we left off; it seemed to me that he had not really changed at all, and he said he thought the same of me. That struck me as surprising, because ten years ago I was a drug-addled anime-addicted clown that spent all day browsing 4chan and playing video games, and I'm not really like that in any respect anymore. He probably thought the same. Anyways, we talked a bit about what we would've talked about before: anime and manga.

I haven't watched any anime in 8+ years, but it made me curious and I torrented a few of my old favorites. Some of them hold up really well, specifically Perfect Blue, Welcome to the NHK, and Tatami Galaxy. There is obviously a culture gap and by virtue of my not being Japanese or as deep a weeb as I once was I likely don't have as good a grasp on them as I do on more Western works, but I can see that there's plenty there that's very applicable to modern Western man today the same way there is in Western literature and media in general (think of the similarities between postwar Jap lit like No Longer Human or The Setting Sun and a work like The Sound and the Fury); it's not just nostalgia.

While the left is clear that they want to transform America via a cultural revolution, conservatives lack any coherent vision for America’s future. Modern conservativism is a convoluted ideological mishmash ranging from paperwork patriotism (such as Americanism as an ideology), capitalism, flirting with White identity politics, building a multi-racial working class coalition, pandering to minorities and virtue signaling with talk of Democrats as the real racists. The GOP is having short term electoral and culture war victories due to how awful the other side is but lack any sustainable long term strategies. The GOP is also dishonest to their voters about taking back America, especially with implicitly White overtones. This is because America is past the point of no return, as far as being salvaged as one cohesive nation. Tucker Carlson blames race politics on potentially leading to ethnic sectarian conflicts but the best way to avoid that kind of scenario is to be honest about the reality that America is an inward facing multi-ethnic empire that can’t be unified by ideology.

There is a sense of psychological trauma from the sense of loss for White Americans. The problem is not just the message from the GOP feeding White Americans copes, to cling onto Americanism, to secure votes. Engaging in the ethnic spoils system is such a radically alien concept for Whites. White Americans are in a state of limbo between having a strong sense that America is theirs while not yet starting to embrace the mindset of a minority or diaspora. Obsessing about Whites becoming a minority is demoralizing and counter-productive but White identity politics needs to be normalized.

America is in an identity crisis with no shared values that unite the nation nor idea of what it means to be an American. Americanism has long been implicitly linked to Whiteness, but that is not viable long term as diversity is inevitable. Either Americanism exists in some new form of civic nationalism that is decoupled from Whiteness or Whiteness is maintained but under multiculturalism. The best case scenario for White Americans is a version of multi-culturalism where they can successfully play the game too with their own enclaves and patronage networks. The political system of the future will be many tribes competing and lobbying for their group’s interest and forming alliances under a multi-polar system

Ideas ain't shit. You can have lots of 'ideas' in a novel as long as autistic knowledge isn't necessary for reading it.
That said, I did not enjoy Foucault's Pendulum because it was too esoteric-historical to really get what all the 1000 references meant, so I felt out of the loop.

Look of the "novel of ideas". Those novels are ABOUT weaving in and out of ideas, but, from what those I've read, in a stream-of-consciousness way, and again, not autistic about it. The author shouldn't name-drop, worst of all, and personally I like when the protagonist is show to think about ideas in a naïve way. Ulysses does this.

Lmao, same, I got covid in Jan 2020, back early when I got harassed twice for wearing a mask at work ("masks dont work anon, you're only spreading panic") reading straight from the script at the time, they were. The narrative changed real quick, so I hesitated to jump in. never got vaxxed. later that same supervisor at my job was writing me up for NOT wearing a mask.

my logic was that I wanted to see what would happen to me if I didn't get vaxxed (people dont know what to do with this answer so its fun to watch them try to make a republican nut out of me). so far i dont regret it.

People in LA have no identities, and people like that are primed to become fanatical. Cue the BLM protests, where suddenly the deadly virus took an anti-racist recess to allow unmasked mobs to set fire to buildings. i saw the riots with my own eyes, and watching the media lie in real time was also a big deal for me. I was also early tuned in to what the CDC and WHO were declaring as dogma before turning and scrubbing what they just said the day before.

Ah alright, that makes more sense, I thought you meant the imagination of the creator rather than the reader. I'm not sure if it necessarily negatively impacts the quality of the work though if it leaves less to the imagination. I'd consider the best manga to be far superior to most shitty YA novels, despite the latter technically leaving more to imagination through the way the medium works. And comics still leave a lot to the imagination compared to animation and live action.

I read Confessions of a Mask, The Sound of Waves, and The Temple of the Golden Pavilion. I intended to read Sailor next and then the tetralogy but I felt like a change of pace after Temple and now I'm worried I broke my flow by reading three books by authors other than Mishima. And then I went to the library to get I, Claudius and Augustus. I hope I have not ruined my summer of Mishima!

I also had to spend six days with family which broke my exercise and diet routine and I got sick when I returned from my trip which has so far been an additional five days of broken routine. Everything is falling apart.
