Kino. Currently reading myself, about 1/3 through it.

Some ideas are captivating, but sometimes I it feels like he kinda jumps to conclusions.

I am dumb tho, so I'm not understanding much. But it's a comfy read

bill gates likes it which is retarded considering humans are legally dead and consciousness is interdimensional

You should read this instead:

Enjoying it, some anecdotal evidence could have been cut down.
The examples about the schizophrenic patients, and the experiments where they "shut off" parts of the brain in some people to see how they percieve the world, were very interesting to think about.

Some of it does feel like he's reaching for connections, as if he's crafting a narrative in the human condition, but I believe he allows the reader to have their own conclusions rather than try and force ideas onto the reader/

Unironically that is Julian Jaynes

Really you should read both since the review is commenting on Jaynes work

The final redpill: the theory of everything that solves the problem of man and every mystery of ancient history. Pure kino.
Of course, it’s been ignored by modern soientists because it has somewhat racist implications (cultural consciousness), but the evidence is conclusively in his favor and Jaynes’s been vindicated by recent advances in neurology.

>vindicated by recent advances in neurology.
Afaik, there was an experiment done with a schizophrenic during an MRI session where the schizophrenic was allowed to hallucinate and it paralleled and practically confirmed Jaynes' "two brains" hypothesis.

any way to find this? sounds cool.

>> No.20577749

>>20577733
It sounds cool because it's not true. There's no way to confirm hallucinations - deviations from consensus reality don't have biological markers, so we use behavioral cues and self-report. Neither is reliable and both are subject to patient falsification.

That's a long comment section

What do you mean? This is like saying we can't prove consciousness exists because it's not observable. True from an epistemological perspective, but if you get enough people you can rule out the possibility that they're patently lying about their experiences. Do you think schizophrenics are lying about hearing voices? Or Exploding Head Syndrome doesn't exist?
Hypnosis is another way around this. It's quite directly guided hallucination and causes people to act in very strange ways (a portion of The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral mind discusses this in depth). You can hypnotize people into believing that a bucket of ice water is warm, and they will act is if it is. Then you take them out of the trance, and they ask why they're freezing cold. This is repeatable and observable.

> So I’m going to start by reviewing a slightly different book, the one Jaynes should have written.
Based. Just review the imaginary book you wanted to read
