I assume he means content. His argument here then seems to be that if you are smarter then you need higher levels of external stimulation to hold interest. And that dumber people are satisfied with low levels of stimulation. Then let me ask this, has the average person gone so high up in intelligence that they cannot function properly without a cellphone to post on twitter with while also watching a show in the background? I don't think so. I think the average person is as dumb today as they were yesterday. The need for chaos and action I think is a need to activate instinctual reactions because it's difficult for one to produce the reaction without it. I argue it takes greater patience and attention to not only take the words off the page but to hold them until you have enough information to generate the chaos and action *from within.*

What about looking at something indicates it is better for slow brains? Certainly brief things take faster processing time or greater memory for processing mentally after the fact, but you can look quickly across a page quite easily. You can easily push your mind to read as fast as possible. Presumably, if you are an incredibly fast thinker (as this man supposes he is) then you can absolutely tear through books in no time, taking in vast amounts of detail very quickly, with a somewhat precocious imagination the imagery would be at a greater pace than television or real life could offer.

All in all, this guy thinks that dismissing the medium is smart, but I disagree. Also why seek something to make you feel contempt?

I'm not surprised, however, that this is the general feeling nowadays of books and things, as many of the better authors tend to be marginalized from the curriculum (probably since the 1910's) - leaving only very dull books and bland takes on the subjects they write about, leading people to this impression. Although ironically the people still reach the right idea about things even without Quintilian or Rufus, for example, to tell them to stop reading garbage and wasting their time musing about the cosmos and to get out on their farm instead.
