Newfag here. Trying to understand /b/ meant understanding its terms, so I went to Urban Dictionary hoping to refine my mental image of a "hipster"

One of the most repped definitions included this:

Can be recognized by books like "The Clockwork Orange", "Everything is Illuminated", or obscure philosophy books, by authors akin to Dostoevsky.

The last part especially riled me; I was just wondering how many of you follow the reasoning Russian+19th Century-------->Obscure, and count Dostoevsky, and "authors akin to him", as hipster curiosities.

pic related, it's me

Fyodor Dostoevsky comes to /lit/ and all he wants to talk about it a stupid word that carries about as much meaning/specificity as "emo" did a few years ago...

Fyodor, I am disappoint.

Russian authors are not obsucure. And also
>Using urban dictionary
>thinking the word hipster has meaning.
wow, I'm... just wow.

Also, just leave /b/ right now and go elsewhere. The place is a shithole.

Everything in this post.

I also find it amusing that whoever wrote that article thinks The Clockwork Orange and Dostoevsky are 'obscure', Dostoevsky is probably THE most recognised Russian author in western countries. I guess 'I'm uncultured swine and don't read, so don't know any foreign authors' means any none American literature is 'obscure hipster book'.

look bro, you know that Raskolnikov is a massive hipster right?
also that he is a self-insert of Dosto(y)evsky?

Anyone who thinks A Clockwork Orange and Dostoyevsk are obscure needs to be taking out and shot firing range style.
